In an important case on the law applicable to victims of human trafficking, the Administrative Court made an order granting a permanent injunction requiring Bristol City Council to continue to provide support and assistance to a trafficking victim to prevent her becoming destitute. The order reflected a concession made by Bristol City Council that local authorities in England and Wales bear responsibility to provide welfare support to victims of trafficking where this is necessary to avoid a breach of Article 3 or Article 4 of the European Convention on Human Rights, Article 12 of the Convention Against Trafficking or Article 11 of the EU Anti-Trafficking Directive.
