Jul 10

[2010] UKPC 24

The Board of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (Lord Phillips, Lord Saville, Lady Hale, Lord Mance, Lord Judge, Lord Kerr and Dame Janet Smith) has upheld the conclusion of a Tribunal of Inquiry (the Rt Hon. Sir Andrew Leggatt, the Rt. Hon. Sir Philip Otton and the Hon Sir David Simmons) and advised Her Majesty that Madam Justice Levers, a Grand Court Judge of the Cayman Islands, should be removed from office. The Board rejected Madam Justice Levers’ challenges to the validity of the Tribunal’s appointment and concluded that she had been guilty of serious misconduct in a number of respects and, in consequence, that she had committed misbehaviour warranting removal.

Timothy Otty QC appeared for the Governor of the Cayman Islands. Stanley Brodie QC appeared for Madam Justice Levers.
