05 Jan 12
On 3 March 2011 Lord Woolf was asked to conduct an independent inquiry into the London School of Economics’ links with Libya.
Lord Woolf’s Report was handed to the LSE on 17 October 2011 and was published by the LSE on 30 November 2011. The Report considered a number of links which developed between the LSE and Libya, including the admission of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi to the LSE as a postgraduate and then a doctoral student and the agreement by the LSE’s Council to accept a donation of £1.5 million from the Gaddafi International and Charitable Development Foundation. In addition to setting out the facts of the LSE’s links with Libya, the Report made a number of recommendations for the future and has been well received by the higher education sector and the wider press as providing guidance on ethical practice. The full Report can be read at www.woolflse.com. Lord Woolf was assisted by Emily Neill, as sole Junior Counsel.
