Blackstone Chambers is delighted to announce that Richard Keen QC, Dean of The Faculty of Advocates in Scotland and a leading commercial silk, has joined Chambers.

Richard is very highly regarded both in Scotland and more generally for his wide-ranging commercial practice, incorporating expertise in banking, insurance, construction and offshore energy, as well as for his work in the fields of administrative and media law. He has been involved in a number of major financial restructurings including British Energy, he acted for the insurers and reinsurers in the inquiry into the Piper Alpha disaster, he led the successful defence of Lamin Fhimah at the trial in the Netherlands relating to the Pan Am/Lockerbie bombing and, more recently, he led Tom de la Mare and Robert Weekes from Blackstone Chambers in the Princess Diana Inquest.

Richard was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1980, took silk in 1993 and was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2009. He was appointed Dean of the Faculty in 2008. He will continue to practise from his base in Scotland but plans to develop his practice in London substantially over the next two years.

Ian Mill QC, joint head of Blackstone Chambers, said: "Richard has an outstanding reputation in the world of commercial litigation. We are delighted that he will be joining us, further enhancing the strength of our commercial group – following the arrivals of Tim Otty QC, Andreas Gledhill and Leona Powell in 2010."

Richard Keen QC said: "This is a tremendous opportunity and an exciting prospect to develop my practice in London with such a strong and established set as Blackstone Chambers."

Blackstone Chambers has 85 members of Chambers, including 34 Queen’s Counsel.
