Two members on new National Anti-Doping Panel
17 Mar 08
Robert Englehart QC and Charles Flint QC have been appointed as Legal Members of the newly established National Anti-Doping Panel (NADP). The appointments were announced on Monday 17 March 2008.
The NAPD has been established by Sport Resolutions (UK), an independent service provider contracted by UK Sport to run the NADP Secretariat in support of Chairman, Peter Leaver QC. The 16-member Panel consists of a mix of senior lawyers, doctors, scientists, and sportsmen and women.
From 7 April 2008 the NAPD will be able to accept referrals from sports bodies in cases involving alleged anti-doping violations, where sports bodies have amended their anti-doping rules to give the panel jurisdiction.
In 2009 a new version of the World Anti-Doping Code will come into force, giving tribunals more discretion when handing down sanctions.
