UK Bill of Rights Commission Launched

Lord Lester of Herne Hill QC and Sir David Edward QC have been appointed to this Commission.

On 18th March 2011, an independent Commission to investigate the case for a UK Bill of Rights was launched by the Duputy Prime Minister and Secretary of State for Justice.  The Commission fulfils a pledge set out in the Coalition Agreement and forms part of the Government's strategy to ensure that our rights, freedoms and liberties are protected in a way that properly reflects our traditions.  The Commission includes eight human rights experts and is chaired by the former Permanent Secretary, Sir Leigh Lewis.
