The President of Brazil, Michel Temer, has awarded Sir Jeffrey Jowell QC the National Order of the Southern Cross, the highest honour afforded by the Brazilian government to foreign citizens.

Sir Jeffrey was named a Comendador da Ordem National do Cruzeiro do Sul (Commander of the National Order of the Southern  Cross) at a ceremony in Brazil last week. The citation, given by Supreme Court Justice Gilmar Mendez, stated that the award was "for [his] contribution to constitutionalism and the rule of law internationally".
