Insulting Politicians on the Radio?

The Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal have recently considered a challenge to Ofcom's decision to uphold complaints by listeners about a radio interview between the presenter Jon Gaunt and a local councillor.  Both courts rejected Mr Gaunt's challenge, but gave helpful guidance on the scope of freedom of expression in relation to broadcast interviews with politicians. This article appeared in (2012) 4(1) Journal of Media Law 29-34 and a draft of the article can be read here Insulting Politicians on the Radio.docx (100 kb)
