BPI & Ors v The Music Alliance

Acted for the BPI (the trade association of the UK record industry), Claimants in a Copyright Tribunal reference which has great significance for all those involved in the music industry. The reference settled as between the BPI and the Respondents immediately prior to the commencement of the hearing in September 2006.  The reference determined the licence terms upon which the record industry and other suppliers of recorded music online were entitled to obtain from the owners of copyright in musical works the rights to have their works downloaded and communicated to the public.
