James acted in defence of three London Irish players cited for foul play offences during their recent Heineken Cup match against Benetton Treviso.  It is extremely rare for three players to be cited from the same match, and accordingly this case attracted considerable publicity.  Two players were given no penalty at all, and the third player was given only a three-week ban, which meant he missed only one match.
