Gusinskiy v Russia

David Pannick QC and Kate Gallafent recently acted on behalf of Vladimir Gusinskiy, a Russian ‘oligarch’, in his successful application to the European Court of Human Rights. The Court upheld his complaint that the Russian Federation had violated articles 5 and 18 of the Convention, and had improperly used criminal proceedings against Mr Gusinskiy to intimidate him as part of a commercial bargaining strategy. Mr Gusinsky was awarded EUR 88,000.
