Hashman v Milton Park (Dorset) Ltd (ET/3105555/09, 26 October 2011)
Ivan appeared successfully in the Employment Tribunal on behalf of the well-known animal rights activist, Joe Hashman (Hashman and Harrup v United Kingdom (2000) 30 EHRR 241). The case establishes that Mr Hashman’s beliefs in the sanctity of life (including his strong opposition to hunting) constitute protected philosophical beliefs for the purposes of human rights and discrimination law. The case follows Ivan’s success in the leading case on this issue: Grainger Plc v Nicholson [2010] ICR 360; [2010] 2 All ER 253; [2010] IRLR 4.
