R (Animal Defenders International) v Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport

David Pannick QC acted for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport in this important case concerning the ban on political advertising in the broadcast media. Animal Defenders International, advised by Michael Fordham QC and Shaheed Fatima,  made an application for judicial review, seeking a declaration of incompatibility in relation to the ban on political advertising in the broadcast media. The judicial review was refused, but the court certified that the case was appropriate to go straight to the House of Lords.
