R (Hicks & Ors) v Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis

Sam Grodzinski QC acted for the Met in this Court of Appeal case about the lawfulness of policing protest on the day of the Royal Wedding.

Sam successfully defended multiple claims for unlawful arrest and detention on the day of the Royal Wedding. The Divisional Court rejected all the claims.  The only issue in the Court of Appeal was under Article 5 ECHR, the Court accepting that this allowed detention to prevent an imminent breach of the peace.
