Lord Pannick QC acted for Debbie Purdy in her successful appeal to the House of Lords, which (today, 30 July) gave the last judgment delivered by the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords before its replacement by the new Supreme Court in October.

The Law Lords held that the DPP was acting in breach of Ms Purdy’s rights under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights by failing to publish guidance which would inform Ms Purdy, who suffers from MS, whether it would be likely that her husband would be prosecuted if he were to assist her to travel to Switzerland for an assisted suicide.
