Represented the Secretary of State (led by Neil Garnham QC and Michael Fordham) in joined cases concerning the legality of decisions by the Secretary of State under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 to certify asylum seekers’ human rights claims as ‘manifestly unfounded’ and to order their removal to other EU states under the Dublin Convention. The case was significant in setting out the scope of the Secretary of State’s powers to certify such claims as manifestly unfounded. .
