Acted for the United Kingdom in the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in resisting the contention of an asylum seeker that his human rights were breached when he was detained at Oakington Centre for the speedy processing of claims. Acted for the Home Secretary in the case in the House of Lords: [2002] 1 WLR 3131. The European Court judgment was given on 11 July 2006 and found in favour of the United Kingdom on the main points. The Grand Chamber of the European Court heard oral argument in May 2007. Judgment is awaited.
