International Court of Justice issues Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change

On 23 July 2025, the ICJ delivered its Advisory Opinion on the Obligations of States in respect of Climate Change.

The proceedings were instigated by a request from the UN General Assembly in March 2023. During the hearings, 96 States and 11 international organisations presented oral statements.

Jason Pobjoy KC represented The United Kingdom in the proceedings, led by the Attorney General.
