Nathalie Lieven QC acted for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission in an appeal to the Supreme Court on the legality of Northern Ireland's abortion law.

The Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) sought a declaration that, in criminalising abortion without any exception for cases of serious foetal abnormality, rape and incest, the law in Northern Ireland was in breach of Articles 3, 8 and 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights. In the High Court Horner J held that NIHRC had standing to bring these proceedings in its own.

Nathalie Lieven QC acted for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission. Dinah Rose QC acted for the interveners.
