The Pupillage Committee have approved changes to our application process for pupillage and mini-pupillage at Blackstone Chambers. The changes follow a review of applications over the last two years and have been adopted with the assistance of an external expert in fair selection, inclusion and unconscious bias.

From 2023, we will no longer be inviting applications for mini-pupillage before the Pupillage Gateway opens. All applications will have to be submitted via the Pupillage Gateway and there will be no interviews for mini-pupillage. Additional competency based questions on our Pupillage Gateway application form will provide candidates with the opportunity to demonstrate their aptitude for a pupillage with us.

Applications will be reviewed by one or more members of the Pupillage Committee after a thorough calibration process, and assessed for evidence of academic ability, analytical ability, communication and advocacy skills, motivation, resilience and determination. Candidates will be ranked, with the top 40-50 candidates being invited to attend an assessed mini-pupillage over three days at Blackstone Chambers. Following mini-pupillage, a small group of around 10 candidates will be selected for final interview.

Further, detailed, information about our new process will be available on our pupillage pages shortly.
