Kate Gallafent QC acted for the RFU in relation to the charges brought against 13 players within the Barbarians camp for breaches of the Covid Code of Conduct, as well as charges arising from the players having deliberately mislead the RFU’s investigation into those breaches.  The players included a number of current and former internationals, and their conduct attracted widespread adverse reporting.  The breaches led to the cancellation of the England v Barbarians fixture due to the health risk they created for other players and teams as well as the integrity of the Autumn Nations tournament.  The independent disciplinary panel  imposed a total of 85 weeks of match bans across the players, 44 weeks of which are suspended, and fines of a total of 18.5 weeks salary.
